They were finally in town. She'd waited for what seemed like forever.
She told her mom she was going to a friends house to hang out, but she walked to the store instead.
They were beautiful, her favorite color, red. She knew her mother couldn't afford them. Her mom was a single parent, with two other kids besides her.
Her name was Sarah Joy McCullen, 14 years old, 5'6", 125 pounds. The police of New Jersey knew her by name because she'd been in so much trouble.
Like always she didn't care about the consequences. Juvi was worth getting to wear those shoes even if for only two minutes.
She glanced around the store to see if anyone was looking, and pondered her escape. She slid them on her feet, made sure no one was looking and walked to the door slowly. Once she reached the door, she took off running. She could hear the girl running the store shouting at her, but she kept running. She made it to her street, she could she her front porch, and her moms white van.
It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky. Sweat dripped down the sides of her head. Suddenly she heard the sirens. She was so close. She ran as fast as she could, but they caught her.
